Senior Lindsay Haupt goes for the kill during the first game in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Stanford. The Hornets fell to the Cardinal 3-0 on Saturday.

The Sacramento State women's volleyball team finished its season Saturday night in Stanford during the second round of the NCAA tournament.

The Hornets took on Stanford University in the Maples Pavilion.

In a three-game sweep (30-23, 30-11, 30-28) the Cardinal advance to the regional tournament next weekend.

This was only the second time in Sac State Division I history that the Hornets have made it into the second round of the tournament.

Although the Hornets lost the match, the team did battle back in the first game looking for the win.

With a score of 24-14 the Hornets came back with a nine point streak but couldn't hold on it as the Cardinal went on to win 30-23.

The second game was all Stanford as the team posted a .541 hitting percentage. Sac State was held to a .028 hitting percentage.

Senior outside hitter Missie Stidham and senior middle blocker Lindsay Haupt both led the Hornets posting 13 kills each.

This was the 20th and final NCAA appearance for head coach Debby Colberg as she announced in August that this season would be her last. She retired after coaching 32 seasons for the Hornets.

The Hornets finished the season with a 29-8 record overall.
