Here is what is going on this weekend in Sacramento.

Friday Sept. 8

CALIFORNIA is celebrating its 150th birthday this weekend! If you are new to California this is a great time to learn about your new state. This event will feature stagecoaches, Native American displays, and historical information about California. This celebration is at State Capitol Park and admission is free. A FREE concert is being given by the Brodys, accompanied by The Decibels and Little Elvis. The concert is in Cesar Chavez Plaza, located at 9th and J Streets from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Parking is tight, so arrive early!

SAUCER is performing tonight at the Hard Rock Caf*, located in Downtown Plaza at 7th and K Streets. Cover is $5 and the show starts at 10 p.m. Call 441-5591 for more information.

Saturday Sept. 9

MIDDLE East Culture and Food Festival will be from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. The event will include food, live music and cultural displays and vendors. The festival is at La Sierra Community Center, 5325 Engle Road, Carmichael. Admission is $3. For more information, call 966-2223.

ART lovers, paintings and drawings by Troy Dalton are on display at the Solomon Dubnick Gallery, 2131 Northrop Ave, Sacramento. The artist’s work will be on display through Sept. 30 and there will be an artist’s reception 6-9 p.m. tonight.

LAUGH it up with Tim Jones and Sean McCarthy at Laughs Unlimited, 1207 Front St., Old Sacramento. Shows are at 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Tickets are $10. 18 and over. Call 446-5905 for more information.
