Timbaland's solo album lets others shine

Abstract:
The year is 2007, and the last time a true musical virtuoso topped pop charts is difficult to remember. It seems only appropriate, then, that today's chart-topping artists are proficient only in the tools of today's electronic music world: MIDI, drum machines and auto-tune software.

Producer, solo artist and former DJ Timbaland is no stranger to these tools, and is taking another step out from behind the mixing console for his second solo offering, "Timbaland Presents: Shock Value," released Tuesday....

America gave birth to so much great music,
Gospel, jazz, blues, soul, rock, rap but today popular music is in freefall
and Timbaland is the ultimate symbol of this trend.

Timbaland:Music for marketing.

Timbaland is well liked by the "critics" (pay by the big corporations) because they can say "Now I understand black music! That's good black music."
What they like in Timbaland "music" it's the Techno/Pop/synth/Gay sound played by a black man.
His "music" is souless, cold, mechanical and said nothing. It's the perfect beat for the fascist Bush years.
Perfect for the white pop artists who got nothing to say but pretend to play "black music".
Perfect for black artist who want to reach the white teens/gay buyers.
For 10 years it's the same beat with a new sound stolen somewhere (Arabic, Indus or Finnish music).
Boring after 8 measures, and feed by force via all the clear channel/MTV.
The Financial power decided that "Timbo" was the perfect good big black (and propably gay) boy to represent their computerized/aseptized "music".

What's so "fantastic" about him? His goofy face??
He's changed the sound of music, sure, but for the worst.

I disagree somewhat with the previous poster. I don't have time to delineate it all but --

Soulless music- listen to "luv 2 luv u" remix & "all ya'll".

Much of Timbaland's previous music did not receive much Top 40 play (I am referring to his own music not his productions) so he's changed. And why not? He's never been only hip-hop, rap, rock or whatever. Seems like he's trying to find a niche yet remain creative at the same time-- not easy. He should be applauded for experimenting. A lot of other music (crunk anyone?) sounds like the same song & although Timbaland's beats are recognizable, at least he is trying to do something different. The "Promiscuous" duet, working with the Hives, Fall Out Boy, etc. indicate that he is trying to break some boundaries or at least record something a little different that what's out today.

Regarding Timbaland being an Uncle Tom or whatever you are implying, I don't know if the guy, (Jimmy?) at Interscope records is white or not so when he gave Timbaland another chance to have a label, Mosley Music Group, after Beat Club didn't work out, I don't know if he was doing this b/c Timbaland is the "good" Blackman or not. Interscope does have the Aftermath & G-Unit labels too so it looks like they have different personalities recording for them.

I don't know what happened with that Finnish song but the use of Arabic & Indian music had been said to bring that type of music more into the mainstream.

And if you can't already tell – I hope that he isn't gay. I know that he's good friends with Justin Timberlake & all but Timbaland seems like a workaholic so I am hoping that's why we don't see him with too many girls. He seems shy too...really...look at how tongue tied he gets in interviews.
