Abstract:
On the fifth straight day of protests against Proposition 8 since Tuesday election, the largest crowd yet rallied at the State Capitol in Sacramento.
Am I a bigot or do I hate my child if I don't sanction my child's temper with a license to have a tantrum whenever he wants (after all, he was born that way)?
Am I a bigot or do I hate my 25-year-old son if I speak out against his binge drinking (even if he never drives when drunk)?
Am I a bigot or do I hate my coworker if I preach to my congregation that her lifestyle choice (of having sex with a different person every week) is immoral?
Am I a bigot or do I hate my friend when I don't laugh at his racist jokes? or gay jokes?
No! No! Banning gay marriage is not hate, it is not bigotry, it is not lack of acceptance or tolerance, or even love. I can fail to sanction any person's behavior, and still fully completely love him. It is simply withholding our society's ENDORSEMENT (not acceptance or tolerance) of a gay lifestyle.
And according to the election results, our society, at least for now, still wants to uphold a standard of marriage as being only between a man and a woman.
Can someone gay please tell me what is so important about marriage to them. If you are so anti-religious, why would you want to associated yourselves with something that was created by and is maintained by religious establishments? it doesn't make any sense.
why don't you start your own religion and "love" ritual? you can still have relations with and live with your significant other without being arrested. you can also get a domestic partnership, which is legal is california, if you want legal and personal benefits.
i want to go to a cool rally at the capitol sometime. why can't we march for something cool? like peace, freedom, love, unity, cannabis, politics, the economy, education, infrastructure, poverty, globalization, or anything except gay marriage? that topic is played out.
most of us don't care either way and just want to mind our own business without being constantly bombarded with gay news and rallies. get a life!
if i rallied against everything that i wish i could do but can't, i'd never get anything done!!
5,000 strong, huh? Well, I represent one of the 5,897,336 Californians that made it to the polls on November 4th to support Proposition 8. Even California, one of the most liberal states in the nation, found gay marriage unacceptable. Before 2008, 27 states (including Oregon) had rejected gay marriage. Now that diverse states like California (52%), Florida (62%), and Arizona(56%) have found gay marriage unacceptable this year, people are just going to have to face the facts and get over it. And please, don't blame out-of-state groups that supported the ban. They didn't vote! If you want to blame someone, blame Gavin Newsome for gloating or democratic minorities. It was primarily Democrats who banned this. So if you're an upset Democrat looking to blame someone, simply look in the mirror!
If prop 8 failed to pass the religious community would rally too. The gay community would be crying about having their votes not taking seriousally. Well...We voted! It Passed! End of story! Cailfornia-the liberal state...voted AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE.Deal with it.
