The cost of higher education must go up, it's necessary to increase fees to support the many functions of a university as the cost to run one goes up every year. Going to college is not a right, it's a choice. There is a reason that not everyone has a college degree, if everyone had one the economy would not do very well. Would a person with a degree work the register at a fast food restaraunt, or wash cars at a car wash? No, many people with a degree had these types of jobs while they were in college, others might see these types of employment as remedial and or demeaning, even though they arent. Over the past few years all I've heard about is the cost of education, I didnt mind the fee increases. When the fees go up, fewer people go to college, which in turn makes my degree worth more. These are state schools we're talking about, look at the cost of attending a private institution of higher education, the cost is astronomical. I do think the 1% tax is a good idea along with the increesed fees. The complaint that many students have to work during college is old, few students dont work through college. In all, the article was very informative although the arguments and complaints made by those interviewed were terrible.
