This whole clothing as an excuse for rape thing has a couple of serious flaws in its logic. First of all, you cannot blame the victim of a crime for being a victim. It is solely the fault of the perpetrator. You don't say "well that person looked defenseless so they deserved to be assaulted" or "they were driving a nice car so they deserved to get car-jacked." In the same way you can never blame a woman for being raped. The sick, twisted perpetrator is solely responsible and no faulty logic by a slick lawyer will ever change that. Secondly this "she caused it by wearing those clothes" argument makes the faulty assumption that rape is a sexual act that is brought on by sexual arousal. Rape is not a sexual act -- it is an act of aggression, domination and abused control. Rapists are mentally diseased individuals who act under the same motivators as those who commit murder or other violent assaults. Maybe someday our society will begin punishing rapists with the same vigor that they punish those who commit these other violent crimes. But, regardless, I hold that you cannot ever blame the victim for an act of violence committed against them, especially one as horrific and senseless as rape.
