Two awful choices for president this year

Abstract:
We all can agree on the significance of the upcoming presidential election. With that being said, it's utterly depressing to contemplate how pathetic both choices are....

Yeah, go apathy, fuck voting... If young people don't vote then we're letting paranoid senior citizens and uninformed people in Ohio decide the election. Also obviously William Ayers is not Obama's Karl Rove. Does Ayers help the campaign with strategy against McCain? Of course not. They barely know each other. Obama has no daily contact with Ayers. That comparison does not hold up at all.

I am very disheartened to see yet another article in our school paper talking about how neither John McCain or Barack Obama are good choices in this election. If this is how you truely feel then why not take a look at a third party candidate. I understand that some people believe that voting for a third party is a throw away vote, but apparently people are willing to throw away our country by voting for candidates that are "Awful". I will be voting for Bob Barr (Libertarian Party) this election and here is the reasons why.
Neither the Republicans or Democrats have America's best interests at heart. They are running so that they can be in power, not so they can fix our problems. Obama doesn't have the experience. He is a great public speaker and his message of hope and change is all well and good, but his lack of experience in the senate and on foreign relations makes me feel that he is going to be all talk and not all that much action. He does make up for his lack of experience with Biden as his running mate, as Senator Biden was the only democratic hopeful that had a plan for Iraq. But I don't agree with Obama's views on certain topics which to keep this letter as non political as possible I will keep to myself.
Up until College I would say I was a staunch conservative, and with the current administrations actions the past 8 years, I had to really look inside my own self and see if I truely agreed with the Republican beliefs. I, as well as many other republicans find myself dissillusioned with the republican party. John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin is a feeble attempt to get Hillary supporters to vote for him. I am able to see through his scheme and I hope you students are able to as well. It was all these actions that led me to follow the Libertarian Party.
In this election the Libertarian Party's nominee is Bob Barr and Wayne Allen Root. The libertarian party is big on state's rights, and a decrease in the power of the federal government. I found myself being less and less trusting of the federal government recently and I really believe that if you are wanting change, a third party is the way to go.
Now I am not saying that I want people to vote for Bob Barr. All I want is for people to stop saying that there are only two candidates and neither of them is a good choice. If people are willing to take a little time and look, there are other parties out there. Vote for the candidate that you think is right. If this is Rep. or Dem. I say go for it. If you don't really agree with either than why vote for them. Don't vote for the lesser of two evils. Vote for who you want to be president. If they are in one of the two major parties, Great. If they are in a third party, even better. Just make sure you vote. "Stand Up!" and make your voice heard. Jordan Guinn,
Your ignorance will never cease to amaze me. Guinn, your naivety of politics shines through your writing. Every issue you cover, including this one, has such a surface level critique, which makes your work hardly worth reading.
For example you claim that both cadidates are pathetic, (which I happen to agree with)but you do not help your reader understand this concept. Most of your accusations come without proof. You called Obama's politics Socialist, you are so very, very, wrong. I have studied socialism for over three years and not a single policy Obama discusses is "Socialist", no not even his healthcare bill. Your attacks on McCain went as deep as his age and his VP. There are plenty more issues with these candidates that you could have addressed but instead you were satified with your usual surface level writing. If you are going to be a public opinion writer, be educated enough to have an interesting opinion. Study politics, all political beliefs, not just the ones you are comfortable with and it will show in your writing. Good luck on future articles.
Sincerly,
Political Junky/journalist
David

You make a whole lot of wacky assertions here without anything to back them up. What is your definition of "socialist" as you've used it in this article? It doesn't sound like you have any idea of what it actually means. Please look it up before you use it next time.

Jordan Guin,
I debated if to post a coment to your "opinion", then I decided to do it just because I think you are a sad case of crass ignorance. Are you truly a CSUS student? I tought that there should be some minimum requirement of general education, capability to reason, and debate a point to be a college student. You have somehow eluded those requirements. Please, spare us the pain, stop writing, you do not need a CAT scan, you need serious remedial classes. I am still not sure if they will make up for the lack of brains. Are you for real a student at CSUS? And if you are, how did you get in? You have a serious future as a TV pundit. Your ignorance and lack of substance not to mention lack of disrespect for our collective intelligence is stunning!

Maybe you're the one who needs a CAT scan. I can't believe you actually buy the Republican's accusation that Obama's a socialist and that his conversation with Joe the Plumber proves it. Come on, that figure of speech that Obama used was merely taken out of context by the Republican party, hoping to tear up their opponent because they don't know what else to do.

Also, I think it's so unfortunate that with your column, you're indirectly telling the readers not to vote because you think none of the candidates should be elected. If you're too pessimistic to exercise your Constitutional right, then I feel sorry for you.

Good article, Jordan. You gave a sharp, insightful analysis. But I would try not to be quite so pessimistic.
