The Poor guy. I feel so bad for him that a small minority of faculty (36 of 44 Senators, for example) are out to get him. Also, it seems to me that only a small minority of students hate him, the rest are merely indifferent.

We need to do what we can as a campus community to cheer up our dear leader. Here is my contribution.

Lean to the Left, Lean to the Right
Sit down, stand up, fight, fight fight!
Goooooooooooooo Gonzo!

I apologize if this comment may seem offensive, but whoever interviewed Gonzalez did a very, very poor, one-sided job. I do realize that the writers are students and are in the process of learning how to conduct interviews, but this article an example of stereotypically poor journalism.

The problems are myriad: First, Gonzalez didn't have to answer questions as to the most controversial issues during his tenure. For example, his taking of $200,000 from the Foundation to "remodel his office", or the massive zero-interest home loan that the Foundation gave him. Or that he came into office getting Gerth's salary departing salary.

The list of Gonzalez's offenses are a mile long. Since arriving at Sac State in 1993 (as a student), I have seen gross incompetence and negligence, but never anything as severe as what has occurred under Gonzalez.

That the Hornet failed to bring these issues up in this article is patently ridiculous.

The list of "offenses"? Are you a police officer?

The $150,000 that he supposedly "took" to repair his office, upgraded many portions of the entire Sierra Hall (wiring it for high speed internet, etc). But, I think there is some merit to your "complaint"- it was just the 'wrong time' because people like you would attack him.

Next, I am not sure what is wrong with getting a zero percent loan from the foundation? That is a business that has their own bankroll seperate from student funds. And its not like he is stealing the money- he has to pay it back!

Lastly, him getting Gerth's salary is not a decision he made. If you are negotiating for a job, you are a fool if you cant admit you would try to get the highest salary possible. Other than that, it was the Board of Trustees that gave it to him- its not like he gave it to himself.

Your list of 'offenses' are weak and are not even unethical. I woudl presume you'd bring some complaint like he cut Academic Affairs or something like that (another outrageours claim, but at least it has some teeth)... instead, you brought a laundry list of complaints that have not affected students or staff whatsoever.

If you're so set on bringing an end to Gonzalez's presidency then get out there and do something about it don't sit around and post idiotic comments on Hornet stories. As someone who has worked with a former Hornet reporter I know how hard these people work. They don't need jerks like you putting them down every time they turn around. GET A LIFE.

You have been a student since 1993? Just goes to show how inept the current university is. And Gerth was a good president? Give me a break. More has been done with Gonzalez in five years than Gerth accomplished in 20+ yrs.

in response to james joyce--you claim that the writer didn't ask the "serious" questions about the money used to remodel his office or about his salary---perhaps because the story was on the frickin' no-confidence referendum! not about his salary...hello! why is the writer going to show up and ask questions about nothing that has to deal with the story she is writing. serisouly. You sit here and lecture on the ethics and manner of the way journalism was done here....you obviously dont know a lick about it...so why comment on it when you dont know what you're talking about!...and you've been here since '93? its time for you to leave....please. just go.

Every president makes mistake. Gonzalez has made his: top heavy administration, alienation of faculty, oh, did I mention arrogance?

The real problem is not that Gonzalez is incompetent and corrupt. It's that organizations like the Foundation and the CSU Board of Trustees has enabled men like him. For example, the Foundation takes a cut of every business transaction on campus: They charge businesses rent, causing higher food prices for students, and they overcharge students on books. And then they take that profit and grease the wheels of administration - they hand out bribes.

Did anyone fail to notice the new bookstore?

First of all, the bookstore is no longer owned by the foundation. And, the textbook 'outrage' happens to be a national problem- not a local one. There are very little local controls that can help that problem. The biggest bookstore problem is teachers writing their own books and profiting off of that because they require it for class and only have you read one or two chapters.

Secondly, how does the foundation charging rent cause prices to be higher? The University via the foundation charges the radio station rent.. they also charge the bookstore rent... that is because the taxpayers are PAYING for the buildings.. and somehow, the school must recoup that money. Again, this is a common thing at universities. The bookstore is essential to our education- so they allow it to be on campus. Since they are on campus, they have to pay rent. It is sort of similar to your apartment. You live there- so you pay rent. Whats the problem?
