Abstract:
Part of me is happy to see so many people turn out to vote and support democracy. But part of me is worried because I have suspicions that some people voted for the wrong reasons....
I agree on some points. The 'Obama-mania' sweeping the nation has certainly brought out a number of new voters unfamiliar with important issues, but I don't think the voting process is "cool" enough to bring uninformed youngsters to the polls in mass numbers. If someone takes time to fill out a voter registration form, find their polling place on Election Day and go there to vote, they probably have a decent grasp on at least a few of the main issues.
Most of us are guilty of this to some extent. Can you honestly tell me you knew the ins-and-outs of your district's U.S. Congressional Represenative race? I didn't, but I voted anyway.
