I drove onto campus on a gorgeous, sunny afternoon juiced because I actually found a spot, and I avoided all the people who drive around aimlessly, acting like they've never seen a stop sign before. After I paid for my $5 parking permit, which is a whole other issue on its own, I proceeded to walk to my lecture hall pretty excited about my class. (3) comments
Jan. 22 marked the 34th anniversary of the famous Roe v. Wade (1973) United States Supreme Court decision that recognized a woman's right to an abortion. Since Roe v. Wade, women have been able to get abortions on demand. "Late-term" abortions were banned by the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003. So is abortion still a moral or ethical issue? (29) comments
Humanity is destined, whether it is our sole purpose or not, to create kinship patterns, to associate with some members of our species closer than others and to create culture along the way to help us function, then to justify our group distinctions by reasserting the symbols and norms of our imagined communities as essential proof. But we at Sacramento State have a problem with fulfilling this destiny: We live on a "commuter" campus where, supposedly, we are too busy, too droll and too boring to create culture. (0) comments

We are social creatures, animals who create and maintain only as long as others like us are willing to provide emotional, spiritual and physical support. Now, at the microcosmic level of understanding, we can denote how groups interact with one another, but this is our Valentine's Day issue, and frankly, when one encounters the romantic discourse, the gaze of the observer's magnifying glass desires to focus, to zoom in to the level of one-on one-interactions: relationships. There use to be a time when everyone knew their position. It used to be all about waiting for him to come up to you. So, whatever happened to the guy making the initiative to get to know you? Am I lost? Are we not in the 1950s anymore? The 21st century has given us everything from speed dating to online dating. (3) comments
