Leaving a legacy

After 40 years on campus, professor to retire with prestigious awards

Leaving a legacy

Government Professor William Dorman has made a profound mark on Sacramento State during his 40-year tenure teaching mass media and politics at the campus. He will be retiring at the end of this semester. Citing an increasing decline in energy, as well as the desire to spend more time with his grandchildren and to travel more, he feels that the time is right to leave the stage and has begun to look toward the future. You spin me right round, baby - like a record

Senior finds new passion, spends late nights energizing dance clubs throughout California as DJ Kaleki

You spin me right round, baby - like a record

It was supposed to be just another night out with the girls for Grace Siador. She and her boyfriend had just broken up and her best friends had dragged her to a local dance club to cheer her up. That night, Siador was recruited to be a dancer for a Hawaiian party for a promotions group called Mass Appeal. (0) comments

'Waitress' serves up delicious comedy

"Waitress" is a charming comedy that is simple, sweet and satisfying. The film doesn't have any A-list actors. It doesn't have elaborate costumes or set designs. Nor does it have imaginative special effects. But it charms and it works. (0) comments

Anchor Steam is the breweries' most famous beer. It has been around since its inception in 1896. It first started being bottled in 1971 and has grown into what is now a worldwide favorite. (0) comments

'28 Weeks Later': Not quite infectiously fun

"28 Weeks Later," for much of its running time, does not quite have as ominous a feel to it as its predecessor. But this is not to suggest that the sequel does not have a lot going for it. (0) comments

You spin me right round, baby - like a record

Graduate student has led campus radio station to greater visibility, improved relations with record labels

You spin me right round, baby - like a record

Art history graduate student and KSSU Music Director Susie Kuo has been DJing and working at the KSSU radio station on campus since 2002. In her office, she listens to music while checking e-mail and answering questions from other DJs. She gets a phone call in the middle of all this and another KSSU DJ hands her some papers. American Idol: The final four

American Idol isn't only a singing contest, it is a performance contest. The winner should not only be a great singer, he or she should also be a great performer, someone with a personality and a great voice. The winner must have the whole package. This is my take on American Idol's top four. (9) comments

Stopping the clock on '24'

The Fox series tortures its fans with boredom

In its sixth season, "24" has hit the wall of creative bankruptcy. In its earlier seasons, Fox's real-time thriller was unique and enthralling, with enough genuine momentum to carry us through its frequent lapses in logic. But the series has officially succumbed to numbing repetition, to the point of becoming self-parody. (7) comments

'Spider-Man 3': A web of disappointment

'Spider-Man 3' is far too unfocused and sloppy to be satisfying. The film is absurdly overstuffed with plotlines and characters, and is completely incapable of juggling them all. Director Sam Raimi has bitten off far more than he can chew. (3) comments

Monster's legend awaits students

Cave-crawling trip heads to Moaning Cavern

Monster's legend awaits students

First there was that movie, "The Cave," which was about a group of scientists that got stuck in an undiscovered cave and got eaten by underground demons. Then there was "The Descent," which was about a group of young girls that also got trapped in a cave and got eaten by monsters, explained to be evolved human-like creatures that are blind and move through sound. Hollywood has done an outstanding job at portraying caves and caverns to be deadly and terrifying places. On Saturday, Peak Adventures is taking a spelunking (cave crawling) adventure to Moaning Cavern and the closest thing to a man-eating monster at this place is probably the old legend of the rock monster. 'Punk Goes Acoustic'

A CD Review

The album is a paradox from the start. First of all, the words "punk" and "acoustic" rarely cohabitate well; they're like the Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison of musical terminology. However odd a coupling they might seem, there they are, smack dab in the title of Fearless Records' new compilation, "Punk Goes Acoustic 2. (0) comments

If you ain't first, you're last

Students prepare low-budget racer for nation-wide competition, using parts from last year's car

If you ain't first, you're last

Maybe you've heard the crackle of a welder, or the metallic sound of a hammer on metal as you walked by Santa Clara Hall on the way to the University Union. Or maybe you were the one who called the police when a few Sacramento State students took their Formula SAE racecar on a test run past the University Union. (0) comments

Students' day on the runway

Sacramento State fashion show on May 15 features student designers

Students' day on the runway

Aspiring models and designers wore high heels and prepared to practice working their struts on the runway. On a nonexistent stage, the models had to imagine a U-shaped platform where blue tape lined the floor in the University Union's Redwood Room on May 1. (0) comments

Get bead-y for creative Mother's Day gift ideas

Most mothers are happy with flowers on Mother's Day, but they are even happier when they receive thoughtful gifts from children and loved ones. Remember that your mother isn't the only special woman on Mother's Day. Loved ones such as grandmothers also deserve gifts on this special holiday. When special thought is put into a gift it means so much more. An idea that many people are choosing to do this Mother's Day is to make their mother jewelry. It can be time consuming and expensive, but then again it doesn't have to be, Tracy Guitierrez, 45, Sales Floor Manager at The Bead Fetish said. (1) comment

'The Host'

A movie review

"The Host" begins in the Yongsan U.S. Army base morgue when a commanding American officer orders his Korean worker to dump old formaldehyde down the drain regardless that the chemicals would end up in the river. The result of the dumping is an extremely large, hard to kill, agile, man-eating, sewer-dwelling monster that terrorizes people relaxing by the river. (0) comments

R15 feels like home

The name completely gives away this fabulous location that is the R15 bar at night and Café Bernardo by day, and home is exactly the feel that it's going for. (0) comments

Mexican restaurant is no bueno

El Patron: a restaurant review

Mexican restaurant is no bueno

El Patron has the potential to be a fun, popular place, but as long as their food is just ok, and their prices are above reasonable for college students, it won't be the new "hot-spot." (5) comments

Scrumptious sushi and sake

Arigato restaurant review

Scrumptious sushi and sake

Ultimately, this is a great place to eat cheap and get quality food. Options are endless and staff service is not bad. It's a great place to eat with friends or to celebrate a birthday. (0) comments

Faking the habit

Pretending to enjoy sex only increases problems

Would you give a dog a treat if he or she didn't obey your command to sit? Now, would fake an orgasm for your man if he didn't actually help you achieve one? (2) comments

A single drop of sweat slowly falls from your face. Your pulsating chest is taken over by heavy breathing, and just when you think you are about to die, you hear: "Ready for another round?" Duration - there is no universal answer to how long sex should last, but there is an application. (0) comments

Bluffing in the bedroom

Women should give direction instead of feigning pleasure

I have done it to get out of school. I have done it to get out of a test. I have done it on a paper. And yes, I have even done it in the bedroom. Yes, I've faked it. (4) comments

Duration takes a backseat

Ultimate satisfaction more important

Is there a time limit to sexual pleasure? That's like asking if you can ever have too much of a good thing. There's no definite answer to either of those questions. The fact is, personal preference reigns supreme on this one. (0) comments
