At his memorial in early August, family and friends wrote some of their most treasured memories of Christopher Ramos on pieces of paper that were later compiled into a book for his loved ones. Reading over the recollections, words such as passionate, outgoing and kind were used a number of times. Ricardo Favela, a full-time art professor and Sacramento State alumnus, died of a heart attack on July 15. He was 62. Favela's involvement with Sac State's artistic scene began in the late 1960s, during which time he was working toward his bachelor's degree in art. (0) comments
Despite a bumpy semester, a no-confidence vote from faculty and a near strike due to stalled contract negotiations, President Alexander Gonzalez offered an optimistic tone in his fall address last Thursday, which promised a more open and cooperative administration. "Now that some time has passed and emotions have reached a reasonable level…we can examine the issues objectively, without hyperbole and distortions," Gonzalez said before an audience of approximately 900 students, faculty and staff. Two weeks after its official opening, Sacramento State's 53,000-square-foot Hornet Bookstore received a new director, 17-year book industry veteran Pam Parsons. Parsons, who was brought in two months after former director Julia Milardovich resigned, said her time spent as the general manager of a Palo Alto Borders is what qualified her for the job. Friday morning was the beginning of the weekend-long Fall 2007 Move-In for the approximately 1,100 students who will be living in the residence halls. The event, which was put on by Student Activities in collaboration with Housing and Residential Life, consisted of more than 300 volunteers helping students and parents move belongings into the residence halls. Associated Students Inc. failed to finalize its 2007-08 Strategic Plan and will instead enter the school year with what it calls its "top five priorities." Tuesday, August 21 Vehicle recovery - COLLEGE TOWN DRIVE - Officers recovered an unoccupied stolen vehicle from the parking lot of a Motel 6. The vehicle was towed and a report was taken. Incident - PUBLIC SERVICE BUILDING - A woman came to the front counter. A records check revealed that she had seven misdemeanor warrants. She was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Main Jail. Despite accepting applications and interviewing candidates for the position earlier this summer, Sacramento State's Multi-Cultural Center has been without a full-time director for more than two years, but hopes to have a new director in place by January.
