Halloween is one of the biggest college party holidays of the year. There are always a ton of parties going on and the best part about the festivities is getting to dress up in an awesome costume and try to out-do your friends. (2) comments
What happened to the love chemistry? What happened to stealing kisses in the confessional? What happened to me saying to stick with Cohutta!? Ms. Shauvon herself finally had her BIA! moment when she decided to go on a belligerent, drunken debauchery show for all of us to watch. And oh, did I watch. (1) comment
So! Another day, another argument. Seriously, when do these people not argue? Their pathetic arguments and catty remarks are almost as bad as the mini-skits MTV plays during the commercials. Shauvon had some "fun" the last episode; so she decided to take a step back, give herself a three foot gap and chill for this one. Smart move honey. (3) comments
Neng Cha, a second-year freshman psychology major at Sacramento State, leans into position, one eye shut and the other narrowing in on the perfect shot. With one hard swoosh of the long pool stick, the cue ball rolls across the newly covered red felt, bumping a red ball just right and into the top left pocket of the pool table.
"What makes it fun is the socializing and the bragging about your skills," Cha said.

He's a father, a husband and a writer. But he's also tackling a taboo subject at a university: atheism.
"If a philosophy class isn't making you uncomfortable, it's not doing its job." said Matthew McCormick, an associate professor of philosophy.

For the third year in a row, Sacramento State students have been invited to participate in a paid teaching program at the Chitralada Royal Palace School in Bangkok, Thailand.
Communication Studies Professor Thomas Knutson said he believes the experience is invaluable for students, as it will prepare them for life in the "global village." He said students will not only learn to appreciate other cultures, but will gain a new understanding and appreciation of their own.

As students lay their heads down to rest, an uncertain feeling might come over them as they catch a glimpse of a complete stranger several feet away, snoring ridiculously loud. Right about now, the tightest of living quarters would make a closet feel welcoming.
The narrow rooms that are being described are the Sacramento State dormitories. Sac State dorm rooms have been described by some as compact, and students are sharing stories of their rooming experiences and being away from home and their parents for the first time.

All college students are working toward graduating and starting a career in the field of their choice. They attend classes, read textbooks and write papers, but when do students learn the rules about dressing for the job they want? How do they make the transition from jeans, T-shirts and flip-flops to blouses and slacks? Students and professors agree that fashion in the workplace is not something that is particularly stressed in the classroom. (1) comment
Winners of Sacramento State's first Battle of the Bands, Righteous Movement will perform in a free show on campus today at noon in the Serna Plaza. Natives of Sacramento, the band said it hopes to bring a whole spectrum of hip-hop to the current state of hip-hop culture. Influenced by artists such as Nas, Rakim, De-La-Soul and 2Pac, the group said it feels its versatility enables them to conquer a variety of styles found in both old-school and modern-day hip-hop culture. Fast-forward to 2007, an era where sitcoms come and go with the blink of an eye. Most actors are lucky to make it big once, let alone mount a comeback. "Back To You," which airs on Fox at 8:00 p.m., marks the return of Kelsey Grammer("Cheers" "Frasier") and Patricia Heaton ("Everybody Loves Raymond") to television as the anchor team of Pittsburgh's own WURG-9 News. As if it was straight out of a horror film, you slowly see the minute hand of the clock on your wall straddle across the 12 with the hour-hand firmly set on the 10. The two-hour rush of network reality TV programming has just ended and Sportscenter is on its third consecutive replay. Then seconds later, you get a text from your buddy Omar. "Party is cancelled!"
This is about the time when you realize that have reached the proverbial purgatory of Student life - the Zone-of-Boredom (ZOB).

This was the most uncomfortable episode this season so far. Religion, homosexuals and crying! My goodness!
Grow up.
This week on the Real World, anger sparked as Trisha confronted her worst enemy: Sin.

As a buxom blonde who talked taboo, former Sexcapades columnist and journalism senior Shauvon Torres was Sacramento State's Carrie Bradshaw. But in playing the peacemaking party vixen every Wednesday night on MTV's "The Real World: Sydney," Torres was careful to present herself as a beauty with a brain. (0) comments
As incoming freshmen, many were probably asked if they were excited to leave home and go to school. At least in the beginning, one might have earnestly thought about the question, possibly answering with a reluctant yes, but at the same time describing that friends and family will be missed. On a Wednesday night, somewhere on the Sacramento State campus, an anthem is being sung. One stanza of that anthem goes something like this: Stanza from Philippine National Anthem: Ang kislap ng watawat mo'y Tagumpay na nagniningning; Ang bituin at araw niya, Kailan pa ma'y di magdidilim ("The sparkle of your flag Is shining victory. Its stars and sun Forever will never dim.") (0) comments
The term Walking Spanish is not to strut and speak in the foreign language, but refers to the acts of forcing someone to leave or do something he or she doesn't want to do. It has no direct connection to music, but guitarist Alex Nelson still deemed it worthy enough to use as the name of his band. "It sounds cool," Nelson said, and the same can be said about his El Dorado Hills-based rock band. (0) comments
What's in a name? Well if your name is Phlagleblast, you're expected to be full of exciting events and interesting services provided by the University Union.
Students will get the chance to learn what's behind the name, including exactly how to say it, at the Union's 8th Annual Phlagleblast.

So what's the big deal? Two albums dropping on the same day is nothing new, right? Yes, but we're not talking about just any two records. Kanye West's "Graduation" and 50 Cent's "Curtis" are the two most anticipated hip-hop albums of the year, plus either one can easily end up gaining the crown as the best hip-hop album of 2007. Looks can be deceiving. Anyone with experience in the world of dim lighting and drinks can attest to that, but it has also found new meaning in the virtual realm of television. Thank "Laguna Beach" for that. When Kristin Cavallari and crew debuted on MTV, so did the dawning of a new era - faux reality shows. (0) comments
Most award shows tend to be self-serving, ego-driven spectacles that last longer than most PBS documentaries (and can be just as boring). The 2007 Emmy awards on Fox were no different. Well, almost no different. (0) comments
Influenced by rock groups such as Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains and Godsmack, Minus Halo said their unique style is similar to the timeless rock melodies of the '60s and '70s while also being alternative to the "heavy metal and acoustic sounds of today."
Sean Navin, bass guitarist of Minus Halo, said their sound is heavy but radio-friendly, which makes their shows loud and full of energy.

Recently, Westerns have not been a hugely popular genre in America. That is sort of odd since we invented it, but it is the only genre that America? Perhaps that is why James Mangold has chosen to remake the 1957 classic "3:10 to Yuma" to follow up his last directorial effort, "Walk the Line." In making a good Western, Mangold may be able to revitalize this somewhat stale genre while satisfying America's fast-moving digital culture. (0) comments
ANT will be invading Sacramento State tomorrow. No, not ants, but ANT, a comedian from Last Comic Standing. He will be performing at 7:30 p.m. in the University Union Ballroom.
ANT, whose real name is Anthony Steven Kalloniatis, grew up in Londonderry, N.H., which he jokingly described as the "whitest state in the union."

One thing is very clear. On a busy Thursday night people don't come to Bistro 33 just to eat. Located on 16th and K St. in Downtown Sacramento, Bistro 33 provides an environment where people eat, drink and party. There are many hybrid restaurants out there that try to combine all the elements of a fun night out. Where most restaurants fail, Bistro 33 delivers. But, does it for college students? (0) comments

Not yet 21? Lucky for you Sacramento has several 18 and over clubs, so you can party with the rest of them. Looking for some Latin style, hip-hop beats or even a place to dance and lounge? Whatever your taste is in music or dance there is a club for you (0) comments
I was skeptical about this new restaurant I was about to encounter, for the single reason that I had not found a great Mexican restaurant in Sacramento. Tres Hermanas changed that for me. Its qualities had so much to offer to the newcomer that had a selected taste when it came to quality, authentic Mexican cuisine. (0) comments
What appears as an abandoned building during the day; pulsates as a hot, thriving dance club during the night. Azukar Lounge, located on J Street, nestled between 16th and 17th St., opened in January 2007 and it hasn't slowed down since. (1) comment
Working in a place where I am the only male, it's hard not to be involved in the world of "female" magazines, especially when it's laid out in the break room. It never fails; there will always be a Cosmopolitan, or another magazine of that kind, sitting on the table.
I have gotten used to the bright colors, the gorgeous airbrushed celebrities and the ridiculous thickness of the magazine. It is the titles on the cover that I can never miss. They always jump out at me like a bag of marijuana on a teacher's desk.

It can last anywhere from a day to as long as three months. In the grand spectrum of things, however, it is nothing more than a brief moment in our lives. This "it" is a fling; but unlike most, the summer fling is a bit different. Most flings are driven by lust. (0) comments
