We've all done it - the dreaded all-nighter. Instead of finishing all of your homework as soon as the weekend starts, you procrastinate. Maybe you stay out all night and party or maybe you just stay home and relax, play video games and hang out with friends until the sun comes up. Eventually, you hit that point where your body is begging for sleep, but now you can't sleep. Now you have finally decided to do your homework. In order to fully understand the effects pulling all-nighters has on students, I decided it would be both interesting and informative to subject myself to a full 48 hours without sleep. What I didn't know was that I was in for two of the longest, most grueling days of my life. (0) comments
Have you ever wondered why you feel so drained and tired at the end of the day, and sleep does little to remedy it? In the morning, are you hitting the snooze button on your alarm clock until the second before you have to get up? Does it seem like the efforts you have made to solve these problems are not working? Well, according to ancient Chinese beliefs, feng shui could be the answer.
Feng shui is defined as an ancient Chinese scientific practice based on selecting or configuring a site, structure or interior so as to harmonize with the spiritual forces that inhabit it.

When it's still dark and chilly outside, Joseph Owens wakes up at 5 a.m. to work the morning shift at Java City inside of the Sacramento State University Union. Some students cringe when thinking about peeling the covers off at this time of the day. This may seem like an unnatural time to get up, but Owens pulls it off. He's doesn't wake up on his own though. Like most students, he needs something to wake him up in the wee hours of the morning. (0) comments
James Brown may have been the "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business," but in the world of punk rock, that title belongs to Danny Reynoso.
Whether on tour, in the classroom or on the radio, the 37-year-old has one goal in mind.

Late afternoon, sunlight illuminated the second-floor patio of the Sacramento State's University Union as four distinguishably different women met to talk about life, school and the principles their organization was founded upon. The different backgrounds and upbringings seem to have no effect on what these women have been brought together to do - help teach and lead young women under the gospel of the Bible.
Other than the sororities trademark colors, purple and white, one thing stood out and remained constant and that was the concept of sisterhood. It exuded from them as they greeted each other with laughter, warm smiles and hugs.

Have you ever been online, seen the advertisements for those dating websites, and thought to yourself, "I would never be able to trust the people I meet online; they might claim to be one way, but turn out to be completely different in person," or something along those lines?
Your feelings about trusting a complete stranger might change if you met that person face-to-face at a dating event, much like the Meet Market.
This Friday, local radio station 107.9 The End is hosting its sixth-ish, not-so-annual Meet Market at the Radisson Hotel located off of Highway 160 at the Canterbury Road exit, for singles 21-and-up who want to try mingling or finding "The One" in a different setting.

Pass the salt? Oh, by the way, pass the boy. I am not a fan of sharing, regardless of how cute a guy's accent is. This episode was kind of nasty. Lots of spit swapping and lip-lock action. And it only involved three people. And one of them wasn't Shauvon! Score! (0) comments
It can't be easy to make it as an indie band today, especially with so many other fledgling bands vying for the attention of the public eye. With a refreshing indie sound the unostentatiously named Brown Shoe, coming out of Folsom, California, is certainly trying to do what they love and make a living out of it. They've been likened to Sigur Ros and My Morning Jacket. The band consists of three brothers, Aaron, Ryan, and Bryson Baggaley, and their friend, Jim Mikesell. Recently we got a chance to chat with two of the four band mates. (0) comments
Most college students can't imagine a childhood spent in foster care, but for emancipated foster youth turned Sacramento State students there's no need to imagine.
In order to raise more awareness and funds for the program, the sixth annual Foster Youth Education Fund hosted "Dancin' in the Streets" Fashion Show and Tea September 30 in the university union grand ballroom.

I am no authority on the art of producing television shows, but who in their right mind thought the Geico cavemen were worthy of a sitcom? Creativity in L.A. is officially dying.
"Cavemen," which airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC, centers around blue-collar caveman Joel and his know-it-all friend Nick. The two are part of a dying breed - the caveman - in a largely Homosapien world.

Canadian director David Cronenberg has once again crafted an excellent movie with his "A History of Violence" leading man Viggo Mortensen. "Eastern Promises" delivers on its promises of being a ruthless mob film and a solid thriller. The film follows Anna Khitrova, a London midwife played by Naomi Watts, who discovers a diary in the purse of a young woman who has just died giving birth to a baby girl. In an effort to find the rest of the baby's family, she tries to decipher the diary, written in Russian. (0) comments
Disabled students, retention programs, graduating seniors, seniors classified graduates, juniors, sophomores, freshmen and unclassified seniors; does this list mean anything to you? Well it should because it is the order in which registration dates are determined. Students reaching the end of their time in college find that the minimal amount of upper division class sections being offered each semester is the biggest nuisance. (0) comments
It seemed that the only thing the Foo Fighters have been fighting against over the past decade was fading into obscurity. Their most recent releases, including 2005's double CD "In Your Honor," failed to live up to the media hype. By far, the best songs on those albums were the songs that were released as singles. For their sixth album, "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace," the Foo Fighters have once again teamed up with producer Gil Norton, whom they last worked with on their groundbreaking album, 1997's "The Colour and the Shape." Perhaps this reunion was just what the Foo Fighters needed to successfully return to form. (0) comments
Hi, my name is Jake Corbin, and I'm a procrastinator. Like many of you who read this, I tend to do just about anything - scratch that - everything before getting started on schoolwork. Apparently, NBC feels I'm not the only one, because they chose to blast the site with advertising for their new action-comedy "Chuck." (0) comments
It's sometimes seen as one of the most underrated aspects of a sporting event at Sacramento State, but the marching band supports every rally, performs at about 40 athletic events and rarely receives much recognition from the campus community.
This year, the marching band is seeking to make its presence known.

True Love endures forever, or at least this café will. When I first walked into True Love Café, a renovated, Victorian-styled house, I found it difficult to find something, an object, or part of the room to focus on because there is so much going on with the décor.
The café seemed to exude an aura of creativity and artistic expression, very non-corporate, as if Jack Kerouac could be sitting in the corner writing, alive and drinking coffee.

Treating herself to the best of both worlds, Tila Nguyen (aka Tila Tequila) has invited 16 guys and 16 lesbian women to live together with her under one roof in her new bisexual reality dating show.
"A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila," which airs Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. on MTV, is everything you love (or hate) about reality TV.

The year was 1967 when a man with the voice of a true orator shared his dream of peace and equality to Sacramento State students.
That man was none other than Martin Luther King Jr.
King made a special trip to the campus Oct. 16, 1967, speaking to thousands of students about the now-historical civil rights movement after receiving an invitation from the University's Cultural Programs Committee.

When you arrive, you get the feeling that this old wild west joint has seen some crazy nights.
Fanny Ann's Saloon in Old Sacramento will knock your socks off.
It's like a feast for the senses and a mix of things old and new when you first walk in. You can smell the good old American hamburgers right away. You can see the collection of old license plates and signs nailed to the wall, the sepia tone photos from the 1800s, the old bicycles and toy wagons that hang from the ceiling and lots of Americana memorabilia that fill the cluttered walls.

Go to Google or Yahoo! and search for anything in relation to "getting women." You will find millions of links ranging from "Getting Women to Approach You" to "Getting Women to Obsess Over You." Not that it is news, but getting women is what men are all about. However, for some reason, people here at Sacramento State believe this is an obstacle most men must overcome. (0) comments
