We've all done it - the dreaded all-nighter. Instead of finishing all of your homework as soon as the weekend starts, you procrastinate. Maybe you stay out all night and party or maybe you just stay home and relax, play video games and hang out with friends until the sun comes up. Eventually, you hit that point where your body is begging for sleep, but now you can't sleep. Now you have finally decided to do your homework. In order to fully understand the effects pulling all-nighters has on students, I decided it would be both interesting and informative to subject myself to a full 48 hours without sleep. What I didn't know was that I was in for two of the longest, most grueling days of my life. (0) comments
Have you ever wondered why you feel so drained and tired at the end of the day, and sleep does little to remedy it? In the morning, are you hitting the snooze button on your alarm clock until the second before you have to get up? Does it seem like the efforts you have made to solve these problems are not working? Well, according to ancient Chinese beliefs, feng shui could be the answer.
Feng shui is defined as an ancient Chinese scientific practice based on selecting or configuring a site, structure or interior so as to harmonize with the spiritual forces that inhabit it.

It's sometimes seen as one of the most underrated aspects of a sporting event at Sacramento State, but the marching band supports every rally, performs at about 40 athletic events and rarely receives much recognition from the campus community.
This year, the marching band is seeking to make its presence known.

True Love endures forever, or at least this café will. When I first walked into True Love Café, a renovated, Victorian-styled house, I found it difficult to find something, an object, or part of the room to focus on because there is so much going on with the décor.
The café seemed to exude an aura of creativity and artistic expression, very non-corporate, as if Jack Kerouac could be sitting in the corner writing, alive and drinking coffee.

It is always exciting to see a new director break out and make a great movie, and Tony Gilroy has done just that. He has an impressive screenwriting resume so far including the likes of "Proof of Life," "The Devil's Advocate," and "The Bourne Trilogy." His new film, "Michael Clayton," is probably the best thriller of the year and one of the best movies of the year overall. "Michael Clayton" follows the titular character played by George Clooney. He is a fixer for one of the biggest law firms in New York, Kenner, Bach & Ledeen. His job is to take care of the little sticky situations that come up and make them go away if it's possible. It's that time of the year again, the leaves are falling, the wind is cold, and George Clooney is in a serious Oscar-baiting movie. It must be fall. "Michael Clayton" is that film and it marks accomplished screenwriter Tony Gilroy's first effort as a director. His previous cinematic endeavors as a screenwriter include "The Devil's Advocate," "Proof of Life," and "The Bourne Trilogy."
On Wednesday we got a chance to speak with Mr. Gilroy himself at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco about his new role as a director, his new movie Michael Clayton and his views on the looming Writer's Guild of America strike.

"Nerds will rule the world," Kevin Kinsella said with a smile. "That's the point of Pointdexter...nerds will rule." For lead singer of rock group Pointdexter, being "nerdy" must mean balancing practice, a part-time job, and a full-time school load. Every member of Pointdexter is a student and has another job besides the band, yet the band has finished it's first album and will host its release party on Oct. 20 at Marilyn's in downtown Sacramento. If you can get past the crunktastical beats and repetition, Soulja Boy Tell 'Em, isn't a bad album. That's not to say that it's a great one either, but it is a solid effort.
I'm not sure why I expected more out of this album. I suppose because there was a lot of good buzz around it. He produced over half of the 14 tracks on his CD. With that said, young Soulja may have to go back to the drawing board. Just because you produce most of your album does not give you a pass to be mediocre.

The year was 1967 when a man with the voice of a true orator shared his dream of peace and equality to Sacramento State students.
That man was none other than Martin Luther King Jr.
King made a special trip to the campus Oct. 16, 1967, speaking to thousands of students about the now-historical civil rights movement after receiving an invitation from the University's Cultural Programs Committee.

If you've lived in Sacramento for longer than five years than you may have seen the evolution of The Sandbar. What started as Club Aqua has evolved into a lively mid-week party. A youthful atmosphere is imperative to keeping a place like Sandbar thriving. While there are people over the age of 25, for the most part this is going to be your standard college crowd. (1) comment
The display cases filled with towering cakes, large pies and colorful pastries immediately catch your eye when you walk through the door.
If you are looking to find a student hot spot for the weekends, but would prefer to avoid the nightclubs and bars, then you should check out Rick's Dessert Diner located at 2322 K St. It is a popular place to be on Fridays and Saturdays because of its wide variety of desserts and coffees.
