Sturdy cardboard makes for strong art

Who knew cardboard could be used in more ways than boxes?

For Sacramento State students, cardboard was the main ingredient that went into "The Chair Show," a collection of artistic chairs made out of cardboard that is on display in Mariposa Hall through Nov. 19. (2) comments

Disney's 'Enchanted' takes over New York City

In a land where birds and fuzzy talking forest creatures help you get dressed every morning and handsome princes ride on white horses, it's surprising a girl would ever want to leave that place. Disney's "Enchanted" follows every classic, fairytale clichés and dumps them all onto the streets of New York City. The result is a sugary, but lighthearted tale of a princess finding her way to Mr. Right. (0) comments

TODAY
"August Rush" wisps you away and into the world of music, sound, emotion and truth. I have to say this movie was very different than what I had expected. The trailer for "August Rush" looks so ridiculously cheesy, I didn't even want to waste the time watching it, but I was pleasantly surprised. (0) comments

A magical closet

Communication students collect prom dresses for underprivileged high school students.

A magical closet

Cinderella knows how it feels to be the girl without a dress for the ball. She also knows there are other girls who have felt it, too. Therefore, she is opening her closet so that every underprivileged girl can find the prom dress of her dreams.

In reality, a Cinderella doesn't exist, but luckily, there are real-life fairy godmothers in the form of DiAnne Armstrong, Elizabeth Treto, Maykeling Ortiz, Irina Taranenko and Feuy Saechao who are helping disadvantaaged girls get a prom dresses through a dress drive called Cinderella's Closet. It started Monday and ends Saturday. (0) comments

Most Sacramento State students know about the basketball and the football team, but the dark horse that is starting to emerge from the shadows is Sac State's debate team, currently ranked fifth in the Pacific Northwest Region. The team credits its success to hard work, fun and newcomers, despite head coach Kristen Tudor absence for maternity leave, said team coach and graduate student Theresa Perry. (0) comments

With leftover turkey and pumpkin pie gone, now starts the time of serious holiday shopping, which for many students has already begun via the Internet. Several Sacramento State students said they are avoiding the busy, crowded stores this year and have started their shopping for the holidays online.

The shopping frenzy typically explodes the day after Thanksgiving, a day many people deem as "Black Friday." (0) comments

The Hives rock out in black and white

Album review: The Hives

The Hives rock out in black and white

Swedish rockers The Hives released their new CD, "The Black and White Album" Tuesday, which is their fifth album to hit the United States. To put it simply this album rocks. Almost every song is a fast paced rock your socks off punch in the face. But it's a good kind of punch in the face. The kind that makes you go back and ask for more. (0) comments

If laughter truly is the best medicine, then the Punch Line comedy club should be a pharmacy for Sacramento State students. Located in the Howe 'Bout Arden Shopping Center, the Punch Line is a popular yet somewhat hidden hideaway for those looking to escape the monotony of school, work and everything in between. The first thing I noticed about the Punch Line was that its location was not obvious. The club is located up a set of stairs and down a hallway. Luckily, if you get lost you can simply follow the sound of laughter echoing from the club. (0) comments

When in a romantic relationship, one hopes, it is inevitable that the ultimate act of physical expression is done. It makes no difference whether you call it "making love," "getting down and dirty," or "bumping uglies," the fact of the matter is that you need some good music in order to get the mood right.
