A new phase of Destination 2010, Sacramento State's initiative to improve campus life, began Thursday with the groundbreaking of a new residence hall.
The four-story, $55 million building will replace Foley Hall, which was demolished in August.

Students and Families for Tuition Relief Now is a statewide effort to put a freeze on tuition fee increases experienced by students within the California State University and University of California systems.

University Police sworn in new officers who completed or begun required training at 10 a.m. today in the University Union's Hinde Auditorium.
A total of 11 officers and dispatchers were sworn in. Sacramento State now has 16 field officers in total.

The California State Auditor released a report today stating that the California State University system is inconsistent in hiring practices and has spent millions of dollars in providing legal counsel and settlements for employment discrimination lawsuits between July 1, 2002 and June 30, 2007.
Requested by Assemblymember Lori Saldana and initiated by Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez and Assemblymember Anthony Portantino, the report studied the following five CSU campuses because of their size and location throughout the state: Fullerton State, Long Beach State, Sacramento State, San Diego State and San Francisco State.

For seniors and college graduates hoping to gain experience at the State Capitol and experience first-hand how government works, the 2008-09 Capital Fellows programs are now accepting applications.
The programs offer opportunities to work with members of the assembly, the Senate and the judiciary and state executive offices. Applications are available for anyone at least 20 years old who is or will be a graduate of a four-year college or university by Sept. 1, 2008.

Hispanics and other minorities have different priorities for the Sacramento region than whites, according to a survey conducted by a research methods class on campus.
The research was presented today by sociology professor Amy Liu in the Lobby Suite of the University Union at her lecture titled "How does ethnicity affect public opinion about the Sacramento Region?"

A variety of tea and soup bowls, vases and jars are some of the pottery that was exhibited at the Sacramento State Ceramics Pottery Guild Sale. The sale took place at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today outside of Kadema Hall.
"(There is) pottery in every shape, color, and form…and it is pretty much all quality work," said Cory Nelson, junior business administration major and a coordinator of the pottery sale.

ASI President Christina Romero stood in the hallway of the Union passing out pamphlets and encouraging students to come inside the auditorium to enjoy free pizza and receive information on activities.

Documents revealed that University Transportation and Parking Services spent $325,000, in addition to other costs, when it broke its lease with a moving solutions company. The company would have provided a temporary on-campus office.
In addition to relocation costs, UTAPS also reviewed and signed a quote from Cross Telecom for $38,280 and another from Alpha Omega Wireless for $18,498 to connect the office with the campus' wireless via a microwave network, which is a circuit-based network that uses point-to-point satellites to connect two separate locations with broadband.

The Sacramento State Strategic Planning Council is gearing up to release the final draft of its strategic plan to guide university policies. The document is said to have a greater focus on recruiting and maintaining students, campus life and diversity.
Student recruitment is one of the newer goals that sets this document apart from previous versions, with the most recent strategic plan dating back to 1996 with minor revisions through 2004.

This afternoon's Faculty Senate meeting focused primarily on a bill regarding tenured faculty pay scales. Most of the meeting was spent discussing the appropriateness of the bill's structure and language and how the bill will be integrated into the Sacramento State academic community.
The bill - the Periodic Evaluations of Tenured Faculty - addresses the idea that once faculty members reach the end of their possible pay scale increases, there should be an opportunity for them to continue receiving pay increases based on their teaching performances over time.

The walls of Sacramento State's University Theater will reverberate with music, dancing
and talent during Dance Sites 2007, an annual faculty-student dance concert.
The event, which is a collaboration between
Sac State faculty members, students and members of the outside community, allows faculty members the opportunity to choreograph performances for themselves or students.

Tabszeera Dosu, whose first day is Monday, will act as the leader of the library, hold responsibility for internal management and ensure the library's quality of service, among other things.

Sacramento State Associated Students, Inc. will vote on legislation today that will oppose a possible 10 percent student fee increase for the 2008-09 school year.
Executive Vice President Miguel Cervantes wrote the legislation that "advocates to preserve the California State University as an affordable, equitable and an institution of quality."

In the past year, alumni and community members have increased their contributions to Sacramento State by donating large amounts of money for projects, departments and scholarships.
According to Public Affairs, Sac State received $16.2 million in the 2006-07 fiscal year. This number is higher than the previous year and is the second time the school has met its fundraising goal.

There were 10 people who attended the talk. Most were members of the club, while others were not students at Sac State.

Mellow Me Out, a day spa located in the University Union at Sacramento State, has started offering free five-minute chair massages every second-to-the-last week of the spring and fall semesters in an attempt to reduce the amount stress students have.
According to the National Health Interview Survey, 75 percent of the general population experiences some level of stress every two weeks.

Peak Adventures is now selling brand new Sacramento State bike jerseys on campus between the Library Quad and the University Union in an attempt to replace the 4-year-old jerseys that were previously on sale.
The jerseys cost $60 for the general public and $54 for students.

The human body is so intricate that to look at it from a single point of view would hinder one's imagination. This philosophy is the basis for the new art exhibit "Field of Life - The Body in Contemporary Korean Art," which opened at the Sacramento State Library Gallery on Friday and will run through Feb. 29.
Curated by artists Koo Kyung Sook and her husband Ian Harvey, an assistant art professor at Sac State, the exhibit includes works by nine Korean artists, five of whom have never presented their work in the United States.
