Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed a Sacramento State student to the California State University Board of Trustees.
Curtis Grima, senior government journalism major and vice president of Academic Affairs for Associated Students Inc., was appointed to a two-year term on the board as a student trustee, according to a Jan. 25 press release.

Power at Sacramento State and surrounding areas was out for 39 minutes today because of downed trees at a Pocket substation, said SMUD Public Information Specialist Dace Udris.
The outage began at 12:16 p.m. and lasted until 12:55 p.m.
Udris said troubleshooters are on site and were able to reroute power to everyone affected. They are currently working to remove the trees from the lines.

During high school, freshman communication studies major Christine Bergholm never planned on going to a four-year college. She was too busy working after school to help take care of her six brothers and sisters.
Unlike many high school sophomores, Bergholm had to deal with a bigger issue than making good grades: a new place to live. At age 16, Bergholm's parents, who she said were severe alcoholics, were arrested. She and her siblings were put into foster care. The experience took a toll on Bergholm's academic life, but her grades started to turn around when she went to live with her friend's family.

With fiscal projections calling for cuts across the board, the Faculty Senate gathered today to discuss the budget and the measures that will be necessary to make dollars stretch.
The budget proposed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger this January, the source of funding reductions at Sacramento State, could cause a 7 percent cut to all departments. A 10 percent fee increase to students is also likely.

The diverse Sacramento State student body has at least one unifying quality: Everyone is working toward that ideal job. Whatever that dream career might be, students will likely find an opportunity to explore the possibilities of the future at the spring Career Fair.
This year's event, which is hosted by the Career Center, will take place on Feb. 20 in the University Union Ballroom. The fair will showcase 120 employers who will take resumes and speak to students interested in joining their companies. Many Sac State alumni will attend to share their experiences of the working world.

Designed to be an extension of University Police, the CSO program was created to help support the department's mission to protect life and property and ensure academic tranquility in partnership with the campus community.

A select group of Sacramento State students will compete for prizes, awards and recognition for their art at the Annual Student Awards Show this month.
The awards show, which opened Monday and runs through Feb. 28, will be on display at the Robert Else Gallery in Kadema Hall. The student submissions will be judged by a panel of art experts. Prizes include a voucher donated by University Art worth several hundred dollars.
