The strike that involved the Screen Writer's Guild of America has finally come to an end as of Tuesday, Feb. 12 after 100 days worth of striking. But just because it has officially come to a close does not mean that the consequences of the strike have ended. (0) comments
People come in all shapes and sizes. What is considered healthy to one isn't always the same case for others. This is the same with diets. From eDiets to Weight Watchers to Jenny Craig, all diets guarantee results, but do they really work? No statistic can prove that it is going to work for you because everyone is different. (1) comment
MySpace is touted as "a place for friends," but the social networking giant has transformed into much more. Ranked as the sixth most popular website in the world by Alexa.com, a website that provides information about web traffic to other sites, MySpace has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. (1) comment
On Friday the campus police was tested on its ability to rapidly respond to a life-threatening situation, and they passed with flying colors. Campus police reacted in a little over a minute when a 76-year-old woman went to the rec sports desk and complained of chest pains before collapsing inside the University Union. (1) comment
Over the past generation, attending college has been known as something that can be a strenuous activity for many. Students are working toward degrees that will hopefully help them land a decent-paying job someday. Yet along with the college life comes responsibilities, and along with responsibilities come finances and expenses. A majority of the students find themselves juggling hours in both their studies and the work force. (3) comments
Monday marked a national holiday, George Washington's birthday, unless of course you attend Sacramento State.
It may have been a day of rest and relaxation for bank tellers, postal workers and the DMV, but not for us. Sac State students had to begrudgingly accept the fact that the President's Day holiday was added on to their extended winter break.

Call it what you want: on the down low, on the low-low or my personal favorite, bisexuality. Either way it's an occurrence that is heavily prevalent in the African-American community. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the term "down low" has been associated with African-American men.

In a world where Britney Spears' latest hospital trip makes major headlines, the State Hornet was criticized recently after posting serious news to its website. As initially reported, a 76-year-old woman collapsed in the University Union Friday, Feb. 8, receiving CPR from witnesses before paramedic attention. (3) comments
On Jan. 10, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed to cut $312.9 million from our education. As part of the cuts, deadlines have moved up to Feb. 1 (or March 1 for five urban area schools), including Sacramento State. Although we are seeing an increase in applications system-wide, we are virtually closing the doors to approximately 10,000 students before they could even apply to a California State University. Having a kid, going to school and working all at the same time is rough. If I had one word to describe it, I'd have to say "insane."
Six months ago my son was born, and it has been a whirlwind ever since. Between mandatory doctor appointments, countless diapers, bottles and random puke fests, free time and recreation are words that almost seem to no longer exist.

Anyone who wonders how Jack in the Box can offer two ground beef tacos for under a dollar only needs to watch the raw footage of cattle being pushed across a cold floor by a forklift to understand how the savings are passed on to them. (3) comments
It's sometimes hard to see past all the deceit, fabrications or any of the other numerous propaganda techniques that have gone on during this current presidency. I know at least 69 percent of America will be counting the days until the end for President Bush, but what about the 30-plus percentile who view Bush favorably? If I were one of them how could I manage to look at the glass half full? (4) comments
Dress codes are normally just for work and private institutions, but for my guy friends getting through the door at most Sacramento night spots is like facing the nuns with the rulers back in high school. (0) comments
As early as May, a large portion of us will be receiving a check or direct deposit from Uncle Sam himself. Economics 101 indicates there is no such thing as a free lunch, so the money needs to be coming from somewhere. In a last-ditch effort to improve his sagging approval rating and revitalize a sputtering economy, President George W. Bush recently unveiled an economic stimulus package that would give thousands of taxpayers in the middle class a rebate check. (5) comments
I'll admit it - I'm one of those people who, while at work or in the computer lab at school, tries to sneak a click at the infamous TMZ Web site just to get caught up on the latest celebrity gossip.
Lately, however, it's been the same old story. Everyone in Hollywood seems to be getting treated for something in rehab, but maybe it's just a new publicity stunt used to boost celebrity fame.

Student safety at Sacramento State is being compromised to make way for the future.
Reports concerning the $55 million building that is currently under construction to replace Foley Hall are old news; however, many students aren't aware of the other changes that have taken shape - namely, parking.

The events that took place on Sept. 11 are still a prevalent focus for many U.S. citizens and will forever be juxtaposed with the current Bush Administration. So in maybe his most memorable and strident attacks on terror since the invasion of Iraq five years ago, President Bush has issued a military tribunal for numerous Al Qaeda-associated prisoners involved in those horrid attacks.
