Indie stores are alive and spinning

The experience of combing through stacks of records, searching for that one vinyl treasure sandwiched between decades of forgotten music may soon be a thing of the past. As more and more consumers turn to their computers for new music - both legally and illegally - even the rhythmic sound of plastic CD covers being shuffled is disappearing. (1) comment

Crowing for the fans

Counting Crows new album is one that fans will enjoy

Counting Crows' new album, "Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings" is about losing your sense of self in the emptiness of fame, alcohol, and parties on Saturday Nights, and then waking up on Sunday Mornings and trying to put the pieces of yourself back together. (0) comments

Victims of violence take back the night

Jane knew Jake. He was a friend of a friend. An acquaintance. So how could this have happened? How could she be walking home from a party with her underpants in her pocket and the beginnings of a bruise on her smooth cheek?

Jane's story is one similar to so many survivor's of sexual assault. In three out of four sexual assaults, the survivor knows the attacker. This may be an eye opening fact for many. (0) comments

After a long break, Panic! At The Disco dropped the exclamation point and released "Pretty. Odd." March 25. "Pretty. Odd." will create some debate among fans because the album is nothing like the first album. Taking a risk by dropping the emo act and exploring different musical talents of members, the band will make a new fan-base and keep only devoted fans. (5) comments

'Lovers and Leaders' emotionally captivating

If you're the type of person who loves to brood over your preferred metaphysical angst, write about it in your journal, rinse and repeat, then indie artist Sacha Sacket's latest album, "Lovers and Leaders" is perfect for your emotional soundtrack. "Lovers and Leaders" isn't your typical emo album however. (1) comment

"Thug Mentality Exposed" by Rayford L. Johnson gives an in-depth look at the culture and mindset of gang members or those living the thug lifestyle, using research and prose from wards in youth prison that have or are in gangs. The writings of the youth prisoners give us a very intimate look at the mentality of gang members and thugs, and give examples of some of the violent and disturbing things that they have done in association with their gangs. 'Prom Night' bores to death

Sony Pictures' "Prom Night" is not really the slasher flick it claims to be. It's more like a scary Disney Channel movie injected with a dash of steroids, thrown into a blender with a cruddy Lifetime movie and then sprinkled with a bit of production value. (3) comments

Pulling all the Switches

"Glam-rock" is the word to describe UK's Switches' music. Their music sounds similar to Weezer but with its own twists. Their tunes are energetic and their lyrics are catchy, especially in their first track "Drama Queen" on their debut album "Lay Down the Law. (0) comments

Clash of fans at Jimmy Eat World, Paramore concert

Wrapping around half a block, a line full of college students, teenyboppers, and their parents were waiting to enter Memorial Auditorium for what would be the most girl-filled concert I have ever attended. (2) comments

Chill out at Vic's ice cream shop

If Gunther's Ice Cream is where the old folks spend an afternoon with the paper, Vic's is where a generation of youngsters and politicians spend their saved up lunch money and power lunches on ice cream, shakes and traditional fountain shop fare. If I were to draw a crude map of the suburbs outlying Midtown Sacramento, Curtis Park would be on left and Land Park on the right. (0) comments

It is a simple gesture that encompasses our everyday lives.

The kiss has multiple uses in our lives, whether it is used for comfort, expression of emotion or a simple greeting. But for all the good a kiss can mean, it can do just as much harm. (1) comment
