This past week several Hornet editors got the chance to sit down and chat with both university President Alexander Gonzalez and California State University Chancellor Charles Reed.
Both men professionally and diplomatically answered the questions directed at them and did their best to express the urgency of the situation that Sacramento State is in. Besides addressing the potential budget cuts to the CSU system and how it would directly impact Sac State, Gonzalez opened up and discussed other significant issues on campus.

Not only are my student fees rising, but so are the gas prices I pay at the pump. This month I've noticed that the amount of money it takes to fill up a gas tank has been rising to the extremes lately. While driving to and from school I've seen gas signs showing prices that have risen to almost $4 a gallon in the Sacramento area. As a student attending Sacramento State, a university known as a commuter school, this definitely takes a chunk out of my wallet. (1) comment
It has been said that progress is nothing more than the exchange of one nuisance for another. The University Transportation and Parking Services office is beginning to learn this better than anyone.
Sacramento State is going through a number of changes, all for the better, including the continued construction of a new residence hall near the J Street side of campus.

Ever since Sept. 11, the country has been caught up in nationalist fervor. Anyone who critiques the government or has negative opinions about America has been labeled as un-American (maybe Anti-American is a better term.) As a history major, ignorant declarations, like the one above, make me cringe. What has our country been founded upon? (0) comments
Earth Day is a pointless demonstration in which people across the globe come together to pretend like they're not part of the problem. It's a day when we distress over the melting ice caps and filthy air, and yet nothing ever changes. On Tuesday humanity marched, sang and lamented over poor Mother Earth. Did it matter? Of course it didn't. The only thing Earth Day is good for is alleviating white, liberal guilt about the state of the planet. (4) comments
Let's be honest with ourselves: There is limited interest in the upcoming Associated
Students Inc. election. The last ASI election produced only a seven percent voter turnout among students and five elected officials who had to step down after their grades suffered. The next batch of ASI representatives will have to fight potential budget cuts and do its part to fulfill Sacramento State's Destination 2010 platform.

Believe it or not, MTV used to care about music. Laugh all you want, but it's true.
It wasn't that long ago either. It was a time when Run DMC was tougher than leather, Michael Jackson proved who was bad and Nirvana smelled of adolescent sweat.

Finding your personal identity is an arduous task to say the least, a labyrinth for many navigating the untamed seas on the horizon and the swells within. For some, that identity is forged either willingly or dictated by the circumstances (usually economical) around but in some way they find it, bind with it and finally transform into that being. Religious beliefs can consume your life. You can be an avid church-goer and be there every Sunday.
You can even score extra points with God by going to Bible study/youth group meeting/choir practice or what have you.

Miguel Cervantes
(Action)
The editorial board is impressed with Cervantes' experience. He is one of the more visible ASI members and has specific examples on how to improve campus safety and student involvement. The student body's only choice, Cervantes is expected to excel because he has a chance to focus on issues rather than campaigning.
