'Spider-Man 3': A web of disappointment

'Spider-Man 3' is far too unfocused and sloppy to be satisfying. The film is absurdly overstuffed with plotlines and characters, and is completely incapable of juggling them all. Director Sam Raimi has bitten off far more than he can chew. (2) comments

'Punk Goes Acoustic'

A CD Review

The album is a paradox from the start. First of all, the words "punk" and "acoustic" rarely cohabitate well; they're like the Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison of musical terminology. However odd a coupling they might seem, there they are, smack dab in the title of Fearless Records' new compilation, "Punk Goes Acoustic 2. (0) comments

A monster of a nooner to hit campus

The members of Sacramento-based band Nice Monster are serious about their music. They are not quite as serious about their "day jobs." "I am the vice president of the chinchilla organization," guitarist Jason Roberts said with a very somber expression on his face. (0) comments

Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting

Campus Wushu Club seeks to preserve traditional Chinese martial art

Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting

While holding an extended narrow sword, one swift snap of the wrist can instantly poke a person's eyeball out or slice his or her neck. Any person can learn how to do this on Tuesday nights in Yosemite Hall. Although nobody is literally sliced, Michael Chen teaches the art of historical combative moves, known as Wushu. (0) comments

I ain't sayin' she's a gold digger

Within the first five minutes of her debut on the Oxygen Network's "Bad Girls Club" on March 28, Sacramento State senior Joanna Hernandez told the world that she was a self-proclaimed "gold digger" and she didn't care what anybody thought about it. "This is me, this is my personality," Hernandez said in her introduction. (0) comments

Orange County rappers Kingspade to hit Sacramento

Orange County rapper Johnny Richter isn't perfect. He does his best, but he proves that it's all too easy to forget the lyrics to a song - even if it's one that you helped write. "Me personally, I've gone to a song after not doing a show for a couple months and went to do a show and forgot damn near half my lyrics. (I) just ended up freestyling when it came up," Richter said in a phone interview. "The kids love it just as much because it shows we're not robots." Richter is a member of Orange County rap duo Kingspade, which will be headlining a show tonight at the Boardwalk in Orangevale. The show starts at 8:30 and is $18 in advance or $20 at the door. Blended smooth with rich velvety textures and a sugary sweet flavor, Angelique Kidjo's new CD "Djin Djin" is not unlike the coffee it will be sold next to in Starbucks stores everywhere. Like coffee, "Djin Djin" will not quench your thirst, but it is filling. (0) comments

Graham Streeter, a Sacramento State alumnus film maker, didn't need a film degree to make a successful movie, but his business degree helped. Streeter's movie "Cages" has been playing since March 22 in Singapore theaters. What started out as a small independent movie is turning into an international success. (0) comments

Relax with a Mirror Pond

A beer review

Relax with a Mirror Pond

The aromatic and rich flavor of Mirror Pond comes from the blend of malted barley with hops. It is somewhat sweet, while at the same time having a kick and a pungent, yet pleasant aftertaste. (0) comments

He has helped pave the way for some of today's most popular Latino comedians, such as George Lopez and Carlos Mencia. 'The Host'

A movie review

"The Host" begins in the Yongsan U.S. Army base morgue when a commanding American officer orders his Korean worker to dump old formaldehyde down the drain regardless that the chemicals would end up in the river. The result of the dumping is an extremely large, hard to kill, agile, man-eating, sewer-dwelling monster that terrorizes people relaxing by the river. (0) comments

Shamrocks and shenanigans

Presented with a rare year where this most alcohol-soaked of holidays is unencumbered by life's responsibilities, many people will want to really go crazy. They will also want to know what Sacramento has in store for their drinking and partying needs. There are a handful of local bars that will be offering some festivities in the spirit of the holiday. In some cases, three can be a crowd, but in the bedroom, three is a sexual taboo. Images of threesomes are everywhere from "Sex and the City" re-runs to squirrel ménages a trios on campus during mating season. Threesomes and orgies are a couple of the most common fantasies among forbidden sexual pleasures, but I have this feeling that they are not as forbidden as some people would like to believe. (1) comment

Understanding is the key to having three

Threesomes are only feasible through trust

Sex is quickly turned into nothing more than an animalistic act of sweat, moans and groans, as two women are ravished by one sex-god of a man. Just about every man has fantasized about being with two women and throwing them into a world of ecstasy. Then again, there are men who are still dreaming of throwing one woman into that world. What makes the threesome so appealing to some people? (1) comment

Fetish - what does it mean? If you ask Noah Webster, one answer is an inanimate object that is worshiped because it is believed to be magical. If you ask a prude, the answer is something weird that should not be discussed. And, if you ask a child, then, well you may have some issues. (0) comments
