Saturday, May 5 is Cinco de Mayo, a time for salsa, margaritas and celebrations. Here is our guide to throwing a fun and festive fiesta. (3) comments
American Idol isn't only a singing contest, it is a performance contest. The winner should not only be a great singer, he or she should also be a great performer, someone with a personality and a great voice. The winner must have the whole package. This is my take on American Idol's top four. (9) comments
'Spider-Man 3' is far too unfocused and sloppy to be satisfying. The film is absurdly overstuffed with plotlines and characters, and is completely incapable of juggling them all. Director Sam Raimi has bitten off far more than he can chew. (2) comments
First there was that movie, "The Cave," which was about a group of scientists that got stuck in an undiscovered cave and got eaten by underground demons. Then there was "The Descent," which was about a group of young girls that also got trapped in a cave and got eaten by monsters, explained to be evolved human-like creatures that are blind and move through sound. Hollywood has done an outstanding job at portraying caves and caverns to be deadly and terrifying places. On Saturday, Peak Adventures is taking a spelunking (cave crawling) adventure to Moaning Cavern and the closest thing to a man-eating monster at this place is probably the old legend of the rock monster. The album is a paradox from the start. First of all, the words "punk" and "acoustic" rarely cohabitate well; they're like the Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison of musical terminology. However odd a coupling they might seem, there they are, smack dab in the title of Fearless Records' new compilation, "Punk Goes Acoustic 2. (0) comments
Maybe you've heard the crackle of a welder, or the metallic sound of a hammer on metal as you walked by Santa Clara Hall on the way to the University Union. Or maybe you were the one who called the police when a few Sacramento State students took their Formula SAE racecar on a test run past the University Union. (0) comments
Aspiring models and designers wore high heels and prepared to practice working their struts on the runway. On a nonexistent stage, the models had to imagine a U-shaped platform where blue tape lined the floor in the University Union's Redwood Room on May 1. (0) comments
The 2007 Sacramento State Senior Art Show began on Monday and will run until May 24. An eclectic collection of art is exhibited by graduating seniors in the Robert Else Gallery in Kadema Hall. Everything from abstract sculptures to watercolors and pencils are on display. (0) comments
The members of Sacramento-based band Nice Monster are serious about their music. They are not quite as serious about their "day jobs." "I am the vice president of the chinchilla organization," guitarist Jason Roberts said with a very somber expression on his face. (0) comments
While holding an extended narrow sword, one swift snap of the wrist can instantly poke a person's eyeball out or slice his or her neck. Any person can learn how to do this on Tuesday nights in Yosemite Hall. Although nobody is literally sliced, Michael Chen teaches the art of historical combative moves, known as Wushu. (0) comments
Within the first five minutes of her debut on the Oxygen Network's "Bad Girls Club" on March 28, Sacramento State senior Joanna Hernandez told the world that she was a self-proclaimed "gold digger" and she didn't care what anybody thought about it. "This is me, this is my personality," Hernandez said in her introduction. (0) comments
Orange County rapper Johnny Richter isn't perfect. He does his best, but he proves that it's all too easy to forget the lyrics to a song - even if it's one that you helped write. "Me personally, I've gone to a song after not doing a show for a couple months and went to do a show and forgot damn near half my lyrics. (I) just ended up freestyling when it came up," Richter said in a phone interview. "The kids love it just as much because it shows we're not robots." Richter is a member of Orange County rap duo Kingspade, which will be headlining a show tonight at the Boardwalk in Orangevale. The show starts at 8:30 and is $18 in advance or $20 at the door. Blended smooth with rich velvety textures and a sugary sweet flavor, Angelique Kidjo's new CD "Djin Djin" is not unlike the coffee it will be sold next to in Starbucks stores everywhere. Like coffee, "Djin Djin" will not quench your thirst, but it is filling. (0) comments
Graham Streeter, a Sacramento State alumnus film maker, didn't need a film degree to make a successful movie, but his business degree helped. Streeter's movie "Cages" has been playing since March 22 in Singapore theaters. What started out as a small independent movie is turning into an international success. (0) comments
For an elderly woman just above 5 feet tall, Carol Channing can certainly command an audience. From the moment the Broadway actress descended the University Theatre steps on Thursday to the moment she finished speaking, she had media, students and faculty listening to every word and note. He has helped pave the way for some of today's most popular Latino comedians, such as George Lopez and Carlos Mencia. For the past two decades, Paul Rodriguez has entertained audiences on television and film, as well as performed stand-up comedy in front of live crowds, which is where his roots lie. (0) comments
The aromatic and rich flavor of Mirror Pond comes from the blend of malted barley with hops. It is somewhat sweet, while at the same time having a kick and a pungent, yet pleasant aftertaste. (0) comments
"The Host" begins in the Yongsan U.S. Army base morgue when a commanding American officer orders his Korean worker to dump old formaldehyde down the drain regardless that the chemicals would end up in the river. The result of the dumping is an extremely large, hard to kill, agile, man-eating, sewer-dwelling monster that terrorizes people relaxing by the river. (0) comments
The name completely gives away this fabulous location that is the R15 bar at night and Café Bernardo by day, and home is exactly the feel that it's going for. (0) comments
Located on 15th and Q Street sits a quaint urban coffeehouse known as the Naked Lounge. There is indoor and outdoor seating with a view of a park, filled with families hanging out and taking in the city-like atmosphere that we call downtown. (1) comment
INK is a small and quaint restaurant located on N and 28th streets in downtown Sacramento. The restaurant is decorated in old school tattoo art. Many of the bartenders are even tatted up; tattoos almost seem to be a requirement for working there. (1) comment

Presented with a rare year where this most alcohol-soaked of holidays is unencumbered by life's responsibilities, many people will want to really go crazy. They will also want to know what Sacramento has in store for their drinking and partying needs. There are a handful of local bars that will be offering some festivities in the spirit of the holiday. Want a place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo every week? Make a fiesta out of every Tuesday night at El Torito's "Taco Tuesdays!" This Mexican restaurant is known for its fancy atmosphere and pricey entrees, but on Tuesday nights, it's anything but. Just head directly to the Cantina, where it's self-seating. (1) comment
Ultimately, this is a great place to eat cheap and get quality food. Options are endless and staff service is not bad. It's a great place to eat with friends or to celebrate a birthday. (0) comments
Uncle Vito's is most popular for pizza by the slice. Located on 16th Street between O and P, this pizzeria is a tasty treat for late-night cravings and friendly service. (0) comments
A single drop of sweat slowly falls from your face. Your pulsating chest is taken over by heavy breathing, and just when you think you are about to die, you hear: "Ready for another round?" Duration - there is no universal answer to how long sex should last, but there is an application. (0) comments
In some cases, three can be a crowd, but in the bedroom, three is a sexual taboo. Images of threesomes are everywhere from "Sex and the City" re-runs to squirrel ménages a trios on campus during mating season. Threesomes and orgies are a couple of the most common fantasies among forbidden sexual pleasures, but I have this feeling that they are not as forbidden as some people would like to believe. Is there a time limit to sexual pleasure? That's like asking if you can ever have too much of a good thing. There's no definite answer to either of those questions. The fact is, personal preference reigns supreme on this one. (0) comments
Sex is quickly turned into nothing more than an animalistic act of sweat, moans and groans, as two women are ravished by one sex-god of a man. Just about every man has fantasized about being with two women and throwing them into a world of ecstasy. Then again, there are men who are still dreaming of throwing one woman into that world. What makes the threesome so appealing to some people? (1) comment
Fetish - what does it mean? If you ask Noah Webster, one answer is an inanimate object that is worshiped because it is believed to be magical. If you ask a prude, the answer is something weird that should not be discussed. And, if you ask a child, then, well you may have some issues. (0) comments
