ASI candidate to file complaint against Team Action

Alexander Huttleston, candidate for vice president of University Affairs, said he will be filing a formal complaint against Team Action for beginning campaigning early.
Huttleston said Team Action placed the orange boards currently located on campus with the slate name, platforms and candidate names at locations around campus noon on March 30. He said the orange boards were lying on the ground with the information facing upward and visible.
Huttleston announced the alleged violation during the the vice president of Academic Affairs and vice president of University Affairs debates.
Huttleston said he wouldn't have a problem if the signs weren't visible but the alleged violation destroyed campaigning equity.
Following the debate Felix Barba, Team Action candidate running for vice president of University Affairs, said the campaigning was not active because the boards were lying on the ground. He said the current election code is ambiguous regarding the campaigning.
"The boards did not come up until midnight," Barba said. "They're getting nervous and they want to do things to get under our skin."
"There are no grounds for his argument but I welcome his criticism."
The 2008 Election Code says that an Elections Complaint Committee will hear all complaints regarding the campaigning and elections.
If a complaint is proven, the Elections Complaint Committee will either issue a reprimand, either a $50 fine to the Tanton, Ramos or Lara Scholarship Fund or a formal letter to the candidate. If the proven complaint is serious, the 2008 Election Code says the candidate can be disqualified from taking office.
