Current Associated Students Inc. President Christina Romero announced the executive and college directors for the 2008-09 school year tonight in the University Union.

Miguel Cervantes, executive vice president, was declared the new ASI president to a cheering crowd of about 50 students after he ran uncontested in the election.

Cervantes said he will work hard to serve Sacramento State students during his term and thanked candidates, the ASI Office of Governmental Affairs and students for their involvement.

Candidates running under the Action slate were elected into all five executive director positions. Nine students were members of the team running with the platform celebrate diversity, promote unity and provide student services.

Current Secretary of State Affairs Roberto Torres is the new executive vice president and incumbent Tim Snyder was reelected as vice president of Finance.

RESULTS FOR COLLEGE DIRECTORS

  • Director of Business: Jimmy Tsang (Imagine Revolution)

  • Director of Education: Florenda McGee (Action)

  • Director of Health and Human Services: Juan Carlos Jauregui (Action)

  • Director of Natural Sciences and Mathematics: Christina Steuart (Imagine Revolution)

  • Director of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies: Lauren Haley (Action)

  • Graduate Director: Shawn Smith

  • Vacant Positions: Director of Arts and Letters, Director of Engineering and Computer Sciences, Director of Undeclared

Felix Barba, current director of arts and letters, is the new vice president of University Affairs, and Kathryn Murray the new vice president of Academic Affairs.

Only one candidate from Team Action was not elected into a directorship position. Two candidates out of the eight running under the Imagine Revolution slate were elected into office.

The winning candidates capped the evening off with a dive into the fountain located between the bookstore and University Union, an ASI tradition for the election winners.

The three clubs receiving the highest number of votes in the election included: the College Democrats in first place, Salsa Loca Club in second place and Toastmasters Leadership Club in third place. These clubs will receive $2 for every vote in favor of their club or organization.

Lindsey Nakano, Meredith Dinnie and Marianne Ceballos were voted on to the University Union Board and Sam Cadeaux-Tydings was elected to the State Hornet Publication Board. All four amendments to the ASI Bylaws were also passed.

Approximately 6 percent of the student body - 1,616 students - voted in the elections. The voter turnout decreased from last year's turnout by 73 students.

We in Imagine Revolution are very proud of our efforts and the election was, in essence, a learning experience. Congratulations to Christina Stuart and Jimmy Tsang as well as all the members of Team Action who were elected into office. (Continued…)
