Walk-off grand slam caps dramatic 9-8 comeback victory for Hornets

Freshman Brent Hottman's walk-off grand slam on a 2-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Sacramento State baseball team over Fresno State Friday, 9-8. It was Hottman's first collegiate home run and it capped off a six-run ninth inning for the Hornets who improve their WAC record to 13-15 (22-30 overall). (0) comments

Murderball: Wheelchair-bound athletes play ball

Sacramento State, in cooperation with the City of Sacramento Department of Parks and Recreation's Access Leisure, hosted the first ever Wheelchair Rugby Exhibition on Saturday. The River City Wreckers and the Reno Big Horns took to the Hornets Nest at Yosemite Hall to play a friendly double-header exhibition, with a three-hour intermission in between games to invite spectators to try out the sport. Sun Devils too Hot for Hornets

The season ended for the Sacramento State women's tennis team when it lost to Arizona State 4-0 in the NCAA Tournament Friday in Fresno. After stomping the Big Sky throughout the season and during the Big Sky Tournament, the Hornets entered the NCAA Tournament ranked 53rd in the NCAA. No. 21 Arizona State got off to a good start when it won the doubles point with an 8-2 victory in the No. 1 match and an 8-3 victory in the No. 2 match. "Maybe we could have been a little more aggressive in doubles but their 1 and 2 in doubles are good and ranked," junior Luba Schifris said. (0) comments

Senior Raphael McFarlane is ending his senior year of competition strong. He earned All-America honors in the long jump at the NCAA D-I Indoor Track and Field Championships. McFarlane finished 13th in the field with a jump of 24-09.75. He had the eight-best mark by American student-athletes to become the first D-I Indoor All-American in school history. (1) comment

The Nevada Wolf Pack poured it on the Sacramento State baseball team Friday, winning the first matchup of a four-game series by a margin of 14-5 at Peccole Park.

Hornets lose first game 6-5, bounce back to thrash Nevada 13-4 in second matchup

The Sacramento State baseball team split a WAC doubleheader against the Nevada Wolf Pack today at Peccole Park.

Trailing 5-4 going into the bottom of the ninth inning of the first game, Nevada relied on back-to-back RBI singles that made for a dramatic win. With one out and the bases loaded, junior Jeff Roth (2-3) allowed Matt Bowen to hit a walk-off single down the right field line on a 2-2 count. (0) comments

The Nevada Wolf Pack scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday to earn its second walk-off win in as many days, besting the Sacramento State baseball team 13-12. The Wolf Pack scored two runs in the ninth inning of the first game of Saturday's doubleheader to beat the Hornets 8-7. (0) comments

Women's tennis falters in first round of NCAA tournament

No. 21 Arizona State sweeps Sac State 4-0

The No. 53 Sacramento State women's tennis team fell to No. 21 Arizona State 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday in Fresno.
