Sac State men’s basketball is back on the court prepping for the season opener tonight against UC Merced.

Some of the usual suspects are back. Sophomore Dylan Garrity will be at the point, senior Joe Eberhard can be found behind the arc jacking up three-pointers and senior John Dickson will be ripping down rebounds.

After the exhibition game against Division II Simpson College, the Hornets may have found an added surprise.

Junior college transfer players forward Joey Quigley and guard Mikh McKinney provide some added production, which will help the Hornets take down Big Sky competition this season.

Quigley missed on only 4 of 11 shots. He helped Sac State in a 33-point route with 14 points. The 6-feet-8-inch forward from Kansas City, Mo. used his size to tear down eight rebounds as well.

McKinney showed an ability to score and distribute. He led all scorers with 18 points and dished out four assists. His fundamentals looked strong as he knocked down four free throws, finishing 80 percent at the line.

Quigley and McKinney’s ability to come in and be productive early will make an already experienced Sac State lineup an even bigger threat. Not only do they take pressure off of the starters, but also they will help strengthen and add depth to the Hornets bench.

Do not be surprised if the two preseason standouts crack the starting lineup early in the regular season.
